Everything You Need to Know About RWU’s New Housing App
By Claire Kelley
Roger Williams University Housing has officially launched a new app, JustIN Mobile, which will replace traditional student ID cards for access to dorms. The app serves as a virtual key card, designed to modernize security across campus housing. Students should prepare to have the app installed before check-in.
The setup process is simple: after downloading the app, students enter their mobile number and receive a verification code.
Once verified, the RWU system will appear within the app. By selecting the RWU tab, students can access their digital key card linked to their housing assignment.
Residence halls such as Maple, Cedar, Willow, and Stonewall will still require physical room keys, but students will now be able to use the app for front-door entry. Newer dorms, including Bayside and North Campus Residence Hall, will feature full app integration, allowing both entrances and individual dorm rooms to be unlocked with a smartphone.
JustIN Mobile has already gained traction on the Google Play Store, with more than 500,000 downloads and a three-star overall rating. Reviews are split, with many users giving five stars while others report issues, but RWU students will soon add to the feedback pool as downloads increase in the coming days.
This rollout follows the university’s ongoing efforts to upgrade key card technology. Last year, Housing added white circle fobs to student IDs to improve access, and new key card scanners have been installed across campus as well.
The app is managed by SALTO Systems, a company that provides digital key solutions for universities, hospitals, and office buildings worldwide. For iPhone users, an iOS widget is also available for quicker access. While the app requires unlocking your phone to use, this feature can be adjusted in settings.
As with many apps, JustIN Mobile collects anonymous usage statistics by default. Students can review and disable this option in the app’s “About” section if they prefer.
